Police figures released in October last year stated that in the 12 months up to June, recorded crime in the UK increased by 13%. Violent crime increased by 19%.
It is also well-known that police numbers are falling. All of which highlights the need for effective security to protect your business, assets and people in 2018.
To show the levels of crime in your area, we’ve compared the crime statistics from some of East Anglia’s biggest towns and cities… *
Bury St Edmunds
Abbey Security has been based in Bury St Edmunds since 1985
Well known for its Abbey gardens and the ruins of the 11th century Benedictine monastery found within them, Bury is a tourist hotspot and the cultural and retail centre for West Suffolk.

Cambridge
Abbey Security Services Ltd has supplied officers to businesses in Cambridge for over 30 years
In Cambridge – East Anglia’s 5th most inhabited settlement – crime numbers reached 5,158 (although 22% of this was made up of bicycle thefts). With the recent announcement that Parkside Police Station will close within 5 years and a new location on the outskirts of the city currently being sourced, policing in the city looks set to change enormously over the next few years.
Known as Silicon Fen, Cambridge is home to the technology businesses, ARM Holdings, AVEVA Group and Jagex. The famous science park to the north of the city centre is a concentration of science and research related businesses. Last year Abbey Security celebrated our 20th anniversary of supporting Cambridge Science Park. In that time, we have maintained a presence of three trained officers for an estimated 175,000 man hours!
Thetford
